"Dirigo" Maine Motto Hand-colored Plate by Delano Studios (1960)

“Dirigo” is Maine’s Motto. It’s Latin for “I direct” and refers to the North Star in Maine’s state seal, a reference to its maritime culture and history. This decorative plate was made by Delano Studios, of Long Island, NY, in 1960. In the center is a stylized depiction of a fisherman and a farmer (a take on the State seal). Shiny gold trim along the edge. Signed on the reverse. Mint condition. Price includes one plate.
