Early 1800’s hinged document box with domed lid and unusual brass handle. Colorful handpainted floral pattern on the face with rick-rack style design on each end. This piece came with a document (included), which indicates that it may have originated from The Buckley Shop, owned by Oliver Buckley, and located in what was once called Stevens Plains, Maine (now a landmass comprising Falmouth, Portland, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth and other surrounding towns). The Buckley shop operated from 1807-1855 and was extremely successful. Lots of patina and wear commensurate with its age. A beautiful and historical piece, with a touch of mystery.
