Antique Cast Brass Guardian Lion
Gorgeous example of a cast brass Chinese guardian lion, or imperial guardian lion statue. These lions are a traditional Chinese architectural ornament, with origins in older Indian Buddhist traditions. We believe this to be cast brass, but it has bronze-like undertones. Hollow, yet substantially heavy in the hand. It is difficult to date because there are no apparent hallmarks, however we typically see these dating from the late 1800’s to the 1940’s.
