Wooden Box with Antique W. Bohannan Lock & Key (Brooklyn, NY; late 1800's)
Handmade wooden box, unsigned, with metal handle, hinges, and padlock latch. Attached to the padlock latch is a hollow barrel key and cast bronze padlock set signed “W. Bohannon Brooklyn, NYC.” Based on this signature, we can date the padlock and key set to between 1870-1885. The lock and key are in working condition and there is an old string tied to the key. The box may have been used for tools or in travel- whatever the contents, they were kept safe with this spectacular lock!
This is a very special find and we are selling as a set (wooden box and key/padlock set). Antique Wilson Bohannon keys and locks are very collectible. We cannot wait for this set to find a home where it will be cherished and appreciated. It would make a wonderful and unique gift idea for anyone with ties to Brooklyn (the shop was located on the corner of Broadway and Kossuth).
