Sold

Professionally framed color lithograph poster by artist David Hockney, designed to promote Igor Stravinsky’s triple-bill under conductor Valery Gergiev at the Metropolitan Opera in NYC. Hockney also designed the set and costumes for the 1981 production. The three images symbolize three of Stravinsky’s operas: The Rite of Spring, The Nightingale, and Odeipus Rex. This is attributed to the first printing, by Petersburg Press of England in 1981 (as signed). Framed, under glass. There is some minor wear and separation of the glass at the top, as pictured, although this is not noticeable unless you are looking for it. Some water damage, as pictured, on the reverse but does not appear to have impacted the lithograph at all. This is an extremely rare find to begin with but the fact that it’s a first-printing and in such great condition is extra special. We are seeing these priced upward of $1k online. A very special piece and wonderful gift idea for a lover of opera and/or Hockney.
